Elegantees: Upstream Fashion

Hands down, Elegantees is my favorite ethical clothing company of all time.

Maybe I'm a little bit biased because I consider Katie, the owner and founder, and her husband Israel, my friends. I love these guys and everything they stand for so much.

Before I knew them personally, I was a customer and followed them on social media for several years. But then, they happened to move to the county next to us for a short time before we launched into traveling, and our families had the opportunity to hang out with them a few times before we left.

There are people who do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, and then there are people who do the right thing because their hearts are truly for people. Katie and Israel are those kind of people.

I mean, how cute are they!!?

The one thing that has impressed me so much about the way they run their business is that their desire to grow Elegantees isn't to get more for themselves, but to be able to give more. Their hearts are to rescue women in Nepal and they make a lot of personal sacrifices to see Elegantees grow. They want to employ more women and help to bring restoration those who have been rescued from trafficking.

Katie says that heart of Elegantees is "to restore women recovered from sex trafficking, as well as work toward solutions to not allow it to happen in the first place."

You can read the entire story about how Elegantees was founded, how it has struggled and grown over the past nine years, and more about the dark side of human trafficking at this link.

When you purchase clothing from their company, you are not only wearing a well-made, stylish piece of clothing, you are literally making a difference for the lives of women in Nepal. You are allowing them to work and keeping them out of the devastation of modern-day slavery.

I've been sharing about Elegantees for some time now and one of the reasons I love this company so much is that they are considered "upstream" in the fashion world. I recently asked Katie to explain why what they do is so much different than the rest of the fashion world.

We prioritize people and the environment. This is important to us. There are a handful of clothing brands that are doing the same thing, but our aim is a little different when it comes to design. We are not a niche brand, but an everyday brand. We focus on knits, neutral colors, and styles that highlight a woman's beauty. We provide something that is more commonly found at Target, but with a guarantee that it's ethical.

I think that's one of the other reasons it's so easy to love Elegantees. They are made with super comfortable cotton in a variety of colors and styles that go with everything. They are made to last and are a high quality. They go with everything and you can dress them up or down depending on your own style. I have a small wardrobe and my Elegantees get washed and worn many times each month and they keep lasting! They also have an adorable line for girls as well as a line for men.

The ultimate goal for Elegantees? According to Katie, it's "to shine a light into the dark fashion industry and also in the dark sex trafficking industry."

This is a goal we should all want to support. Shine a light into darkness. Support vulnerable women. Be a part of restoration and redemption for those that the Lord loves.

Be part of the work Elegantees is doing!
